Start registration in the Netherlands

Step 2 of 7

Make sure you have a valid identity card

This may be a passport or an identitycard.

  • Are you coming to live in the Netherlands from a country outside Europe? Then take your residence permit, written decision or authorization for temporary residence (MVV sticker) in your passport.
  • If you want to register from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Saba or Sint Eustatius, you must also bring proof of deregistration.

Collect the original birth certificates

You will need the birth certificates of all persons who will be registered with you.
Also bring your other documents such as your marriage certificate, divorce certificate, et cetera.

Don't have birth certificates? You must submit them to the municipality within 6 months of your registration. You make a separate appointment for this.

Documents that have not been drawn up in Dutch or English must be translated by a sworn translator. It is possible that the documents must have a legalization or an apostille. For more information, go to nederlandwereldwijd.nl. Link opens an external page in a new browser tab..

Collect the documents for your living situation

Depending on your living situation, you also need the following documents:

* These documents may not be older than 3 months. They must also be completely filled in and signed.

Apply for a housing permit

Are you moving to a street that requires a housing permit? Then ask your landlord to complete a declaration of intent.
Use the form 'Deel 2 - bereidverklaring en verhuurverklaring' for this.

Make an appointment

Make an appointment online to register at the desk at publiekslocatie Centrum.

Do you want to make 1 appointment to register several people, for example your family? You can state the number of people while making your appointment.

Do you need help making your appointment? 
Call the municipal service number 14 010. When you call from abroad, call +31 10 267 16 25.

Step 7 of 7

Go to your appointment

Go to your appointment to get registered at publiekslocatie Centrum (40, Coolsingel).

Make sure that:

  • you bring all the required documents
  • everyone who needs to be registered is present in person

Usually, your registration will be processed within 4 weeks after you have submitted all the documents. You will be informed in writing.
