Start registration in the Netherlands by a student
Step 1 of 5
Make sure you have a valid identity card
This may be a passport or an identitycard.
- Are you coming to live in the Netherlands from a country outside Europe? Then take your residence permit, written decision or authorization for temporary residence (MVV sticker) in your passport.
- If you want to register from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Saba or Sint Eustatius, you must also bring proof of deregistration.

Collect the documents for your living situation
Depending on your living situation, you also need the following documents.
If you don't have all the documents yet, just bring them to your appointment (step 4).

* These documents may not be older than 3 months. They must also be completely filled in and signed.

Apply for a housing permit
Are you moving to a street that requires a housing permit? Then ask your landlord to complete a declaration of intent.
Use the form 'Deel 2 - bereidverklaring en verhuurverklaring' for this.
Step 4 of 5
Register online
Click the button 'Register online' to start your online registration. Add the documents.
Step 5 of 5
Go to your appointment
You have already received a confirmation email from the municipality with the date and location of your appointment to complete your registration.
Bring the following to the appointment:
- confirmation email with QR-code
- your passport or identity card
- proof of your living situation
- for non-EU/EEA nationals: residence permit or MVV sticker
- your case number
This can be found in the email confirmation you received after your online registration.
After your registration has been processed by the municipality of Rotterdam, your BSN number will be sent to your Dutch address by mail within 4 weeks.
