The Netherlands has an intricate network of local and national public transport. You can best travel by train outside the Rotterdam region. On most lines there is a train every half hour during the day, every day of the week. The first train leaves around 05:30 hours, the last around midnight.

Tram

More information about arrival and departure times, tickets, season tickets and reductions is available at the service desk of every railway station. But you can also check www.ns.nl for information about arrival and departure times.

Local transportation
For public transport within the Rotterdam region you can make use of bus, tram or tube. If you have a valid ticket you are free to transfer between these three. The Rotterdam area is divided into a number of zones. Your ticket is valid for a specific number of zones and a specific period of time. The public transport employees at the sales and information desks are there to assist you. Tickets are available at all RET Sales and Information Points, at RET Customer Services, in the ticket machines at tube stations and from bus drivers and tram guards.

One-hour ticket
If you wish to travel quickly and easily to different places in the Rotterdam area, the one-hour ticket is very useful. You can use it on RET trams, buses or the tube in the Rotterdam Zone.

1-2-3 Day ticket
For day-trippers, tourists and visitors to conferences and events, a number of convenient day tickets is available. Depending on the length of your stay, you can buy a one-, two- or three-day ticket. The ticket is also valid for travel on NS trains and Connexxion buses within the Rotterdam zone.

Chip card
The chip card is a new system of payment that is being introduced gradually in the Netherlands. As from 29 January 2009 the chip card will be the only valid means of payment for local and national public transport. The RET has issued an information brochure in English. Visit www.ret.nl for more information (only in Dutch) or dial 0900-500 6010 (€ 0.10 per minute).

If you have any problems checking in or checking out, you can go to the RET Customer Service or to one of the RET Sales and Information points.
